What is Cinco de Mayo? The Mexican holiday (which means fifth of May in Spanish) commemorates a Mexican victory against French forces in the city of Puebla nearly 150 years ago. Though the day has little significance in Mexico, Mexican Americans for years have viewed Cinco de Mayo as a way to express pride in their heritage.
